Types of geysers

PLD_img8
Electric Geyser
The principle on which the geyser works is simply the conversion of electrical energy into heat through heating elements to raise the temperature of water through conduction of the heat to the water.

Solar Geyser
Solar water geysers rely on warm water rising, better known as convection. This is how water circulates through the panels. Convection happens when the water stored in the panels heats up and rises into the water tank.

Gas Geyser
A gas geyser is a water heating system that runs on gas. The gas geyser will only be activated when there is a demand. For example, if someone opens up the hot tap the gas geyser will activate and send hot water to the tap.

A must-know if installing a new geyser

Did you know that your geyser consumes the most electricity of any appliance in your home? Water heating is the single greatest electrical cost to most hotels, dormitories and private homes. There are several myths around geysers and cost-saving techniques that can be employed to save electricity.

In South Africa, we have an energy crisis where there is simply not enough coal-generated power for its citizens. While Eskom tries to deal with this problem, we are left with load-shedding and constant calls to reduce our electricity consumption. One of the newest pieces of legislation pertaining to this is that when you have a new geyser installed, fifty percent of the power has to come from a renewable resource.

This is a great win for our country in terms of reducing our carbon emissions. This will also reduce your bill substantially, especially if using solar power.
